How strong is a megalodons bite?
Paleontologists have done some sort of biomechanical modeling based on teeth we've found, and they calculated the bite force would be about 40,000 pounds per square inch, which is by far the highest bite force ever calculated for any animal, living or extinct.
Now, you might ask, is that the most powerful bite of any animal ever? Not even close. Coming in at almost 41,000 pounds the bite of the prehistoric shark the megalodon smashes the competition.
Past megalodon research suggests these giant marine predators, which first appeared around 16 million years ago, could chomp with more than three times the force of T. rex, based on the new figures. The bite force of a megalodon—"just because it was so much larger-bodied—would have been bigger," Bates said.
The T. rex had the strongest bite of any land animal in Earth's history. Its toothy jaw delivered upwards of 7 tons of pressure when it chomped its prey. Until now, scientists weren't sure how the carnivore delivered such impactful bites without damaging its own skull.
Compare that to the bite force of an adult T. rex—about 35,000 newtons— or to the puny biting power of humans: 300 newtons. Previous bite force estimates for juvenile T. rexes—based on reconstruction of the jaw muscles or from mathematically scaling down the bite force of adult T.
FUN FACTS. A megalodon's bite could crush a car. The largest megalodon tooth ever discovered was about the length of a TV remote. Megalodon had a bite force at least three times stronger than T.
The average human bite force is between 120-160 PSI (pounds per square inch). However, this pales in comparison to many wild animals, many of which use their teeth not only to chew, but also to grip and tear.
Godzilla's size, conical teeth and chunky jaws imply a phenomenal bite. Rigorous bite force tests haven't been done on Godzilla, but he could generate forces tens or hundreds of times greater than those calculated for T. rex. These are around 57,000 Newtons.
Who Would Win in a Fight Between Megalodon vs Blue Whale? A megalodon would win in a fight against a blue whale using it's powerful bite and speed.
The largest predatory shark and biggest fish known to science was megalodon, which ruled the seas until around 3 million years ago. While its exact size is subject to debate, based on fossil teeth, megalodon may have been 15-18 metres long – three to four times the dimensions of the biggest great white sharks.
What animal is stronger than a megalodon?
The modern sperm whale, fin whale, blue whale, Sei whale, Triassic kraken, pliosaurus and colossal squid could all beat the megalodon.

#2 Strongest Animal Bite Force in the World: Saltwater Crocodile. The largest, living reptile documented by science, the saltwater crocodile ambushes its prey before drowning it or swallowing it whole. Saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are the largest of the crocodile family at 1,000 pounds.
One animal that was surprisingly strong was the giant panda. Of the living species tested, its bite ranked number three at 151, a BFQ that represented about 292 pounds of biting pressure.
The anteater, on the other hand, is one mammal with virtually no bite force. In fact, it can barely move its jaws at all! Anteaters collect ants and other foods by extending a long tongue and drawing it back into their mouths.
Of all the bites in the animal world, the Tyrannosaurus rex's may be the most famously terrifying. Now, it's also the strongest known to science, according to new research.
At first blush, a lion's bite—which has been measured at a force of upwards of 650 pounds/square inch (psi)—might seem extremely powerful; after all, the average adult human bites with a force of about 150 psi, and anyone who's ever been on the wrong end of an angry toddler (and his or her considerably weaker jaws) ...
The winner of the most powerful bite award goes to the saltwater crocodile, according to a study conducted by scientists at Florida State University.
Mature megalodons likely did not have any predators, but newly birthed and juvenile individuals may have been vulnerable to other large predatory sharks, such as great hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna mokarran), whose ranges and nurseries are thought to have overlapped with those of megalodon from the end of the Miocene and ...
The team found that megalodons could hit a cruising speed of over three miles an hour, Dr. Pimiento said, much faster than the 33 other sharks they surveyed. Among existing sharks, the fastest cruising speed belongs to the salmon shark, which can manage about two miles an hour.
Does the black demon shark exist?
No physical evidence has been found that would prove the creatures existence, although believers often point to the half-eaten carcasses of whales that sometimes wash ashore in the area.
Cane Corso
The Cane Corso has a bite force of a massive 700 PSI. this PSI surpasses a lion (691 PSI) which is insane! This dog comes from Italy and is considered part of the mastiff family. Although they may be intimidating, these dogs are loyal and affectionate to their families.
Spotted Hyena (1,000 PSI)
As befitting mammals that can eat, chew and digest solid bone, spotted hyenas are equipped with massive skulls, disproportionately large trunks and forelimbs, and powerful bites that can rip through carcasses with up to 1,000 pounds of force per square inch.
Bengal tigers often immobilize prey like deer by delivering a swift bite to the throat. The cats have razor-sharp canines, which can measure nearly four inches in length, and a strong bite force of 1,050 psi. Once trapped in a tiger's powerful jaws, it's nearly impossible for smaller animals to escape.
In Godzilla (2014), Godzilla is 355 feet (108 meters) tall. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), his height is increased to 394 feet (120 meters) tall.
If Kong has a scale factor of 64.5, his strength would increase by a factor of 4,160. That means that Kong would be able to bench press 16.6 million pounds (74 million Newtons).
Godzilla is shown to have great vitality: it is immune to conventional weaponry thanks to its rugged hide and ability to regenerate, and as a result of surviving a nuclear explosion, it cannot be destroyed by anything less powerful.
#1—Blue Whale
Coming in at #1… the blue whale! Not only is the blue whale the largest animal to live on the Earth today, they are also the largest animal to have ever existed on Earth.
The Antarctic blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus ssp. Intermedia) is the biggest animal on the planet, weighing up to 400,000 pounds (approximately 33 elephants) and reaching up to 98 feet in length.
Megalodon may not exist any longer, but it would almost certainly kill a sperm whale.
What is the #1 predator in the world?
Rank | Apex Predator |
---|---|
1 | Wolf |
2 | Komodo Dragon |
3 | Crocodile |
4 | Black Widow |
Killer Whales
Great white sharks, to be exact. But the true ruler of the sea is the killer whale. Killer whales are apex predators, which means they have no natural predators.
Lions are the archetypal apex predator, but their hunting success rate strongly depends on the number of lions involved – a single lion hunting in daylight has a success rate of 17-19%, but this increases for those hunting as a group to 30%.
There are many animals that could beat megalodon. Some say megalodon ate Livyatan but it was an ambush predator and Livyatan might have eaten it too. The modern sperm whale, fin whale, blue whale, Sei whale, Triassic kraken, pliosaurus and colossal squid could all beat the megalodon.
A Livyatan would win a fight against a megalodon. The Livyatan has the size and speed advantage, bigger teeth, and it has the endurance to last through a long fight. Another problem for the megalodon stems from the way that megalodons attack. They prefer to dig into the stomachs of their prey.
Do orcas have predators? Orcas are apex predators, which means they're at the very top of the food chain and they have no predators. Killer whales are some of the largest and most powerful animals in the ocean, and no other predator is able to challenge them.
Crocodiles. Crocodile attacks on people are common in places where crocodiles are native. The saltwater and Nile crocodiles are responsible for more attacks and more deaths than any other wild predator that attacks humans for food.

The title of largest land predator that ever walked on Earth goes to the Spinosaurus. This meat-eating dinosaur lived about 90-100 million years ago. It was about 60 feet long, 12 feet high, weighed at least 13 to 22 tons and had a skull roughly 6 feet long.
Erickson and colleagues put all 23 living crocodilian species through an unprecedented bite test. The "winners"—saltwater crocodiles—slammed their jaws shut with 3,700 pounds per square inch (psi), or 16,460 newtons, of bite force. By contrast, you might tear into a steak with 150 to 200 psi (890 newtons).
What is the bite force of grizzly?
Polar Bears have the strongest bite force of all bears, with a bite force of 1200 PSI. The Grizzly Bear comes in a close second with a bite force of about 1160 PSI. Gorillas are mainly plant-eaters - the only non-carnivore on this list! - yet have an incredibly strong bite force of 1300 PSI.
A black panthers bite force is as strong as a regular panther or leopards bite force considering they're the exact same species. That bite force is roughly 300-310 Pounds per square inch.
The saltwater crocodile may have the strongest bite ever measured, but that might be because it's been impossible to measure the killer whale's bite force with accuracy. Based on captive orca incidents it's estimated that their bite power could exceed 19,000 PSI.
Did you know that the human jaw is capable of exerting up to 125 kg of force in a single bite? On average, the female bite registers at 50 kg, while the male bite registers at 70 kg. There is a wide variance in pressure between the front and the back teeth, with the back teeth (molars) bearing most of the stress.
The results revealed that human skulls, far from being weak, are quite tough and unusually efficient for their size. Our second molars can exert a bite force between 1,100 and 1,300 Newtons, beating the orang-utan, gibbon and Australopithecus but lagging behind the gorilla, chimp and Paranthropus.
The world record for the strongest human bite was set by Richard Hoffman, with a bite force more than six times more powerful than the average human. It was measured during a research test using a gnathodynamometer at the College of Dentistry, University of Florida back in 1986.
Key Points. The saltwater crocodile has the strongest bite of any animal, with a force of 3,700 PSI, making it one of the deadliest animals in the world. Saltwater crocs are responsible for 3,000-5,000 human deaths each year.
Of all the bites in the animal world, the Tyrannosaurus rex's may be the most famously terrifying. Now, it's also the strongest known to science, according to new research.
In addition, megalodon possessed a ferocious bite; its bite diameter was 3 metres (about 9.8 feet), several times larger than the bite diameter of averaged-sized white sharks.
And the strongest known bite force of the entire animal kingdom is…. The Crocodile -- specifically, the Saltwater Crocodile (the highest recorded “live” bite of 3700 PSI) and the Nile Crocodile (estimated 4000-5000 PSI)!
How strong is a human bite psi?
The average strength of a human bite is 162 pounds per square inch (PSI), but this pales in comparison to nature's champion chompers. The bite force of an animal is largely dependent on jaw muscles, as well as jawbone and surface area of the teeth, but it also depends on the size of their lunch.
Killer Whales
Great white sharks, to be exact. But the true ruler of the sea is the killer whale. Killer whales are apex predators, which means they have no natural predators. They hunt in packs, much like wolves, which are also at the top of their food chain.
One particular dino could have withstood gunfire more effectively than others: a tank-like creature called the Ankylosaurus. These massive dinosaurs sported incredibly strong armor — bony plates that covered their backs, skulls, and even their eyes and cheeks.
Despite a jointed appearance, paleontologists now think the dinosaur must have had a stiff skull to deliver its crushing blows. The bone-shattering bite of a Tyrannosaurus rex could have crushed a car, delivering up to six tons of pressure to its hapless victims.
The second biggest shark in the world is the basking shark
While they don't get quite as large as whale sharks, the largest one ever reliably measured was 12.27 metres or just over 40 feet long. This is enough to net them the title of the world's second-largest shark.
Although Megalodon teeth are frequently discovered, a full megalodon jaw has never been discovered. Saltwater breaks down cartilage, so all megalodon jaws have likely dissolved.
- Hippopotamus Bite Force: 1,800 PSI.
- Jaguar Bite Force: 1,500 PSI.
- Gorilla Bite Force: 1,300 PSI.
- Polar Bear Bite Force: 1,200 PSI.
- Spotted Hyena Bite Force: 1,100 PSI.
- Bengal Tiger Bite Force: 1,050 PSI.
- Grizzly Bear Bite Force: 975 PSI.
- Lion Bite Force: 650 PSI.
Wolves have a strong bite force of around 400 psi, which is stronger than most species of dogs. Some believe a wolf can bite with up to 1,000 psi, but testing animals for bite force can be difficult. A wolf's bite varies because of its size, and whether the wolf was biting at its hardest.
